CHARACTER NAME: Enzan Ijuuin (and Blues.EXE)
SERIES: Rockman.exe anime (series information | character information)
CANON POINT: post series
AGE: 13
APPEARANCE: Enzan | Blues
PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: -
PERSONALITY: Enzan starts out as your typical Rival-character: indifferent, strong, arrogant and absolutely blunt when he decides to point out someone else's flaws. He takes everything he does absolutely serious - be it business or be it Net Battle - and he expects only the best from himself and Blues. If victory isn't hundred percent guaranteed before a battle, he will wonder why that is and try to cover his own weak spots; if the situation seems unclear, he rather draws back and regroups than storming forward blindly into a fight he just might not win.
Even when trapped into a corner, he will not start to panic and keep considering all options, no matter how terrible the consequences may be. For example, using the Dark Chip on Blues was not a rashly made decision - despite the urgency of the situation - it was a ruthless thought process: None of them would have escaped if either him or Netto hadn't used it, and he and Blues wouldn't hesitate long to delete Rockman even though he is there friend - at least not the way ended up Rockman and Netto doing.
However this trait also drives him to rationalize everything: over the years and despite the Navi being the closest thing he has to a friend, Enzan convinces himself to consider Blues just as data (despite being very happy to have him as NetNavi upon initial introduction) and does not realize his emotional attachment to the Navi until he was almost deleted by Pharaoman. He also tries to give up on Blues after using the Dark Chip, as it seemed easier to treat him as enemy than as someone they needed to save.
As the series progresses he starts to open up; how couldn't he when he keeps company to people like Netto or Raoul. However he never loses his sense for responsibility, even while frustrated by Netto's rash and somewhat careless attitude. He is also still rather blunt when the occasion calls for it and tends to couple praise with criticism.
He is very quick witted and reliable, he is after all vice president of his father's company (canon implies that he has been for quite a while too), rather aware of the responsibility his job brings with it and additionally investigates Net crime cases with practically only Blues by his side and little to no help from the Science Lab and the Net Police on fairly regular basis. When Blues is taken over by the Dark Chip, he keeps finding ways to help, either by assisting the Science Lab's research or by backing up Netto when he is in Cross Fusion by using the Battle Chip Gate.
While Enzan has generally no issues with people - he appears even comfortable while taking Anetta out for a date - he tends to become rather awkward when someone acts motherly towards him. For example when confronted with Netto's mother, he finds himself unable to refuse her despite trying several times, it's most likely related to him rarely being in that kind of situation due his mother's early death.
The probably most important thing to Enzan is his relationship to Blues. After all, the Navi has been a constant companion since childhood. They are connected by a strong bond of trust, mutual respect and strength, that existed even before Enzan realizes his attachment, since strength is the only thing both of them are able to acknowledge indefinitely.
He is rather protective of Blues; he refuses to let him fight for someone else entertainment and tends to apologize when asking a potentially dangerous task of him. In the later parts of the series, Enzan states Blues to be "his Navi”, though judging from his tone one might as well replace “Navi” with friend, partner, companion, nakama or similar strong words.
When the Dark Aura overwhelms Blues, he promises that he would always remember being Enzan’s Navi, which he indeed does. That actually makes him an exemption of the rule since the Dark Chip usually destroys a Navi’s personality program and erases all memory of their former lives and owners. That Blues retains both (albeit rather twisted) is another example of the strength of their friendship.
ABILITIES: Enzan is human and doesn't have any special abilities by himself... though that certainly doesn't make him helpless. He is extremely intelligent (though the issue of school and education is never brought up in the anime; in the games he is said to be at college level by the time of the last game), a quite experienced business man and strategist and seems to have been taught some sort of martial arts.
He does however have the Link PET and his Synchro Chip on him, which (as previously discussed) will allow him to use Cross Fusion within ExitVoid. Cross Fusion is the power gained through the Synchro Chip. It allows the user to fuse with their NetNavi inside the Dimensional Area. When entered into the PET, the Synchro Chip uses it as medium to materialize the Navi's data and form it like an armor around the Navi's Operator.
In that state, Enzan gains Blues' endurance and flexibility as well as his fighting capabilities and the ability to load and use Battle Chips. However the fusion is tied to his own stamina and his relationship to Blues. Should Enzan tire out in Cross Fusion-state or should he and Blues start to disagree (as rather unlikely as that is), their fusion will be cancelled. The Link PET also comes with a handy ability called Jet Vernier, which allows them to use Rocketboots in order to fly during Cross Fusion (Blues does not have this ability by himself).
The main weapons of a Navi and his Operator - whether in a Net Battle or during Cross Fusion - are the previously mentioned Battle Chips; they can either be weapons (mostly transforming the Navi's arm in whatever Chip was slotted in), viruses, defense support or other sort of equipment. They can also effect the general status of the Navi. Since the PET Three, OPs are able to preload up to twenty-five Chips into their PET; without another operator using a Battle Chip Gate, only pre-loaded Battle Chips can be used during Cross Fusion.
Some Chips, when used in a certain Combination invoke an especially strong attack, called Program Advance. Essential for the Program Advance is not only the combination of Chips, but also the timing of the Operator. Enzan and Blues have been seen using several Program Advances, even in Cross Fusion state - all of them Sword-base. He most commonly uses:
- Beta Sword/Dream Sword (Sword - Wide Sword - Long Sword)
- Elemental Sword (Flame Sword - Aqua Sword - Elec Sword - Bamboo Sword)
- Zeta Variable (3x Variable Sword)
(He has a few more though.)
In the Anime, Battle Chips need to be reloaded after use (though it isn't explained if that is the same for preloaded Chips). With Mod Permission, preloaded Battle Chips will need six hours to reload after being used in ExitVoid.
Along with Enzan, Blues.EXE - his NetNavi - will be transported into the game. Blues is extremely loyal and respectful towards Enzan, and otherwise very reserved and to the point. He shares Enzan's blunt ways, rather advising an "ally" to stay away from battle altogether if he thinks them incapable. While he has absolute confidence into his skills and in his ability to do whatever task Enzan sets before him, he has great respect for strength and skill and no problem working with others, if he regards them to be competent enough for the task.
In battle he becomes very ruthless and doesn't hesitate to delete his opponent should it come to that. It should be noted however that he appears to be rather hesitant and even protective when 'civilians' or 'children' become involved. He sacrifices himself for a child Navi when Gospel runs wild in Ameropa and refuses to kill the Nurse Navi Silk, even though she was about to be overtaken by the Dark Aura and her deletion would save many lifes.
His standard weapon is a sword; he mostly relies on that and close combat and is rarely seen using any kind of blaster or canon. Blues is also mentioned several times to be one of three Navis with an Ultimate Program (the other two being Rockman and Forte). However it is never explained what that program does, only that it is essential to his core programming; without it he would cease to exist.
While being a Fighter Navi Blue's (original) primary directive is to support and guide Enzan in his position as vice president of IPC. He is capable of analyzing large amounts of information very quickly and can also act and fight independently from Enzan if needed (in the games he originally fights without Enzan's help until being defeated by Netto and Rockman makes them rethink their approach; in the anime he is separated from Enzan as they investigate Trill's origins and decides to step through the rift between the worlds to scout out the Beyondard a little). While this is never specifically mentioned, it can be assumed that Blues can deliver/encrypt messages for Enzan and ensure that they will arrive safely at their intended recipient.
