History

On an alternate Earth in the year 200X, the internet is far more advanced than anyone could dare to hope; it has become its own world (Cyber World). Now everything is linked through computers and technology has developed to the point where data has become sentient. Most humans rely on their Personal Terminals (PET) and Internet Navigators (NetNavis). Especially popular is the "Net Battle", in which Net-Navis and their owners (Net-Operators/NetOPs) face off against each other. Of course, there are plenty people who try to abuse the Cyber World, first and foremost the criminal organisation World Three (or WWW), which is lead by the smart but megalomaniac Dr. Wily.

Ijuuin Enzan is the son of Ijuuin Shuuseki, the president of the IPC-company, which is largely involved with IT-sector. He loses his mother at young age (presumable four or five) and is soon put into training to take over the company, eventually reaching the position of vice president of the company. Additionally he is given a NetNavi, Blues, who becomes his only constant companion and friend.

Enzan grows up to be calm, calculating and confident - a result of his large responsibilities, his education (the issue isn't brought up in the anime; however in the games he is said to have advanced far, far quicker than his peers, reaching college degree by the end of the last game), and presumably his distance to his father. He becomes a genius net battler, building a near perfect team with Blues.

After hearing rumours about an amazing net-battler and his blue NetNavi, Enzan and Blues decide to investigate, leading to their first meeting with Hikari Netto and Rockman, in which Blues saves the other Navi from being deleted by Magicman, a Navi of an WWW-Agent. Upon their first meeting Netto, Enzan isn't all too impressed, stating that he doubts that the other will come very far in the upcoming tournament, the N1 Grand Prix.

At the start of the tournament, Enzan fights the very first match in the Subdome and sets a record by defeating his opponent in merely three seconds. He fights his way through the preliminary rounds to the main tournament and after a chance meeting with Netto and his friends, he is challenged by the other. Enzan and Blues are vastly superior, however the fight starts to attract a load of viruses, which leads Netto to accidentally use a Battel Chip combination that initiates a Program Advance.

While Netto and Rockman train to master that move and manage to defeat their next opponent in the tournament using an incomplete Program Advance, Enzan shows that he knows and mastered the technique in his match, using the Program Advance while unable to see Blues.

Eventually Enzan and Netto are teamed up against WWW's two independent Navis Bomberman and Stoneman. Just before that match, Enzan needs to leave in order to seal up a contract for IPC. In the elevator of the hotel he meets Ayanokouji Yaito, friend of Netto and daughter of a rival company’s president (who had actually followed him there). When the two of them get stuck in the elevator, Enzan assists her as they escape to the surface, but loses one of the Battle Chips he needs for the Program Advance. In return Yaito helps him to reach the stadium in time by lending him her limousine.

Enzan arrives, stating that he won't need any help from Netto to defeat their opponent and that he better keep out if he wishes to avoid Rockman's deletion. Blues shares that opinion and even goes as far as knocking Rockman out to keep him away from the battle.

Blues continues the fight alone and defeats Bomberman without all too much trouble. However he faces more trouble with Stoneman since he is able to regenerate and Enzan unable to use the Program Advance. In the end, Rockman frees himself from where he was previously trapped by Stoneman's attack and disables of Stoneman with a now mastered Program Advance. Blues then strikes his core before he is able to regenerate and forces him to plug out.

After the battle against the independent Navis, Enzan and Netto face off against each other in the finals. The fight is hard and tough and not just dangerous for the Navis, since the stadium has started to sink as they battle. In the end they release each a Program Advance and even though the Navis are equal in strength now, Blues just manages to come out ahead and defeat Rockman, making Enzan the winner of the N1 Grand Prix.

However, having gained new respect for his rival, Blues tries to help Rockman up, only to be pushed away by the other Navi; just in time as it turns out, because Pharaoman, who was awakened by the energy used in the fight between Blues and Rockman and who is the cause behind the collapse of the stadium, released a dangerous energy blast that leads to Rockman’s deletion. Pharaoman himself appears, declaring himself King of the Network and Enzan plugs Blues out just before he would be deleted himself.

Enzan and Netto flee from the stadium; Netto grieving for his Navi and Enzan left thinking about how just how close he had been to losing Blues and realising just how much the red Navi truly means to him.

He tells as much to Netto, just before later finds that Rockman's memory data has resembled in his and his friends' PETs. Later on, Enzan travels to the Science Lab (it was taken over by Pharaoman who uses it as his Headquarters) to repay his debt to Netto by helping out recovering Rockman. Blues manages to reach the other Navi just in time and saves him from being deleted for good. After that he leaves to face Pharaoman, but is overwhelmed and almost deleted. However Rockman awakens and arrives just in time to save him. Enzan agrees to a combined attack with Netto and together they drive off Pharaoman with a Double Programm Advance. The weakened Pharaoman is then captured by WWW and brought before Dr. Wily, but deletes himself to spite the human, leading to the destruction of the WWW-base and Wily's apparent death.

Enzan returns to his duties as vice president of IPC again and travels around the world to set up and seal business contracts. He runs several times into Netto, who is on his own world tour (which was his award for making it second in the N1 Grand Prix), helping him out from time to time when he is in trouble. He continues to do so in Densan City (their hometown) and also takes part at the NetMobile Grand Prix that Yaito hosts.

When the Cybernetic Monster Gospel (controlled by the correspondent crime syndicate) first appears and starts to absorb the Cyber World and its Navis, Enzan sends Blues to investigate the matter. Blues tracks the Beast to the stadium where he and Rockman end up facing him, but are both defeated and saved by a strange Navi named Forte.

In order to limit the damage done to IPC by Gospel, Enzan and Blues travel to Ameropa. However when they are confronted by Gospel and unable to defeat him with the Program Advance, Blues sacrifices himself in order to protect a childlike Navi and ends up being absorbed. After that, Enzan forwards his information on the origins of Gospel to Netto. Eventually, after Rockman defeats Gospel, Blues' data is restored with the rest of Internet City and he returns to Enzan.

Six months later, Enzan is recruited for the Net Police's Special Force: the Net Saviours. He is given a Synchro-Chip by Netto's Father Hikari Yuichiro, which allows him to cross fuse with Blues inside of a Dimensional Area (an area where the Cyber world is projected into the real world) and in shows the highest Synchro rate known at that time. He works together with Netto on various missions as they try to fight the Darkloids (Navis that were created by data and chance and not by human) and the mysterious organisation Nebula, who spreads Dark Chips, which influences a Navis personality programming and cuts off the connection to their Net-Op.

Eventually they stumble over a seemingly kidnapped girl named Anetta, whom Enzan recognises from a previous mission. Anetta, convinced that Enzan and Blues killed her Navi Silk, tries to trick him into using a Dark Chip, but Enzan looks through that plan and calls her on it. After hearing the truth about what happened to her Navi, Anetta reveals that the mastermind behind Nebula and the Dark Chips is Dr. Regal, a scientist that had been working with the Science lab and the Net Police for some time then. As consequence Ms. Yuriko, an agent of Nebula, kidnaps her for real this time. Enzan requests Netto's help and together they manage to track Anetta and Regal to a tanker ship.

On board, he and Netto engage Shademan, the leader of the Darkloids; they challenge him within the Dimensional Area to protect Regal since he has Anetta as hostage. The battle ends with the utter defeat of both Netto and Enzan, however the one they think to be Regal turns outs to be Laserman, Regal’s NetNavi and destroys the Dimensional Converter and with that the Dimensional Area. Upon that defeat, Shademan tries to destroy the tanker through the Cyber World. When Rockman and Blues both fail to stop him and are close to facing deletion, Netto attempts to use a Dark Chip he had previously gotten from Anetta - only to be stopped by Enzan, who uses it on Blues.

Upon receiving the Dark Chip, Blues is able to overpower Shademan for a moment but then struggles against the Dark Chips corruption and even asks Rockman to delete him before he becomes the enemy. Rockman refuses and when Shademan is about to delete both of them, Blues sends the last of his power to Rockman, invoking his unique Soul Unison-ability, which enables him to defeat Shademan. However after that Blues is overwhelmed by the power of the Dark Chip and disappears.

Enzan returns to Densan City and his responsibilities as vice president of IPC, turning a bit more distant and business oriented and considering to quit the Net Saviours for a moment. However Nebula doesn't allow him to rest as they try to gain control over several Satellites by using the models of a Fashion show called "wearable computers". Enzan manages to outwit the head of the operation, Yuriko, who escapes, and is then confronted by Blues.

Blues declares his allegiance to the Darkloids and independency from Enzan before disappearing again, leaving a devastated Enzan behind. Enzan starts to blame himself; though never showing much of that until he provokes Netto into a fistfight, trying to punish himself that way. However Netto looks through his scheme and scolds him for giving up on Blues, promising him that they would rescue Blues at all costs.

Later that day, Blues attacks the IPC Research Centre to destroy the new PET-design that IPC was developing, using Gravityman as distraction. Enzan tries to fight him and succeeds in holding him long enough for a cross fused-Netto to arrive and then leaves in order to remove the designs from the Cyber World. He assaults Blues using Battle Chips, though Blues easily evades his attacks due remembering Enzan's attack patterns. Enzan uses this knowledge to his advantage and temporarily traps Blues. This gains him enough time to remove the data, but Blues frees himself, promising that it wouldn't be as easy the next time they meet.

Indeed, after reporting his failure, the full effects of the Dark Chip activates and fully transforms Blues from a Net Navi to a Darkloid (a form called Dark Blues). Enzan keeps helping out the Science Lab with his resources and together they develop the Battle Chip Gate, a device that allows to extend the limit of Battle Chips in Cross Fusion. The initial testing seems a failure as the timing is off and Enzan realises that only those who have experienced Cross Fusion can properly aid another. He is then often seen backing up Netto that way.

When Netto's PET is destroyed after a fight and replaced by a newer design, the Science Lab finds itself under attack from Dark Blues just before the new PET is deployable. Anetta and Enzan manage to trap him in a smaller Dimensional Area and Netto arrives just in time to save them from a second Darkloid. Dark Blues once again frees himself and disappears.

Netto soon grows arrogant due the new PET's enhanced powers despite Enzan's warnings. Enzan then seeks out Netto's ameropean friend Raoul and together they decide to teach Netto a lesson. They pose as afro-wigged criminals and challenge Netto in hope to make him realise his mistake, but are interrupted by another Darkloid attack. After helping Netto with the fight, they give themselves away and Netto admits he has overdone it.

When fellow Net Saviour Laika calls Netto to Sharro, Enzan investigates a series of Navi-disappearances with help of Netto's friend and classmate Meiru. They track the disappeared Navis by using Meiru's Navi Roll as bait and find the responsible in a small robot named Allegro. However Allegro is destroyed by Forte, who then is offered to join Nebula by Dark Blues. Forte rejects and both Navis disappear.

Eventually the Science Lab and the Net Police find out that Dr. Regal is operating from a space station. Using the Control X program, they try to locate it's position but are once again attacked by the Darkliods. Enzan and Anetta once again confronted by Dark Blues, who destroys the Control X server just after they manage to isolate Regals location, but Anetta manages to restore the data.

While Netto rushes off to challenge him with help of Ayanokouji Yaito, Enzan keeps working with the Scince Lab and they develop a Vaccine Chip that is supposed to counteract the effects of the Dark Chip. Netto meanwhile faces Dark Blues in space and almost manages to return him to his former self, by drawing out the Dark Aura.

When the Science Lab launches a final plan to trap and turn Dark Blues, Enzan first protests against the involvement of others as Blues is his Navi and he was the one to insert the Dark Chip, but is quickly shot down as everyone thinks of Enzan and Blues as friends.

They bait Dark Blues with a fake Dimensional Converter and trap him with a Dimensinal Area, while the Navis of Meiru, Yaito, Laika and others destroy Blues’ escape route. Netto takes on Dark Blues while Enzan hides himself nearby. When the Vaccine Chip fails to free Blues, Enzan resorts to letting Netto shoot another Vaccine Chip at Blues, cross fuses and destroys Dark Blues within their soulworld.

Enzan and Blues are both hospitalized, but when Regal cross fuses with Laserman and starts to rampage and destroy the world, Enzan seeks out Blues and they decide to fight together. They manage to stall just enough for Netto and Rockman to reach Full Synchro state and defeat Regal. As the group celebrates their victory, they watch the night sky full with shooting stars.

However the shooting stars was just the first sign of another danger. Shortly after, enlarged viruses start to appear in the Real World without needing a Dimensional Area. Professor Hikari and Meijin conclude that the virus invasion results from the influence of the comet and its inhabitant, an alien-Navi named Duo who travels through the universe and judges races whether they have the right to continue existing. Twenty years before the current events, Duo appeared as well and left two probes - Regal and Yuriko - behind. Now after the Nebula-incident he has concluded that humankind is too dangerous to continue existing and tries to destroy Earth, using giant sized viruses.

Enzan and Netto manage to stall it until the Science Lab's manages to create a Dimensional Area. After that both boys cross fuse and defeat the virus. However after releasing the Cross Fusion, Rockman fails to return to his PET and Enzan sends Blues into the Cyber World to track him down.

It turns out that Forte kidnapped him in order to steal his Ultimate Program to be able to oppose Duo. When Blues confronts him, he tries to steal his as well, but with Enzan's and Netto's help they are able to drive him off. When Ezan and Netto try to send their Navis to the comet in order to communicate with the foreign Navi, Forte storms the Science Lab and rushs towards Duo, intending to challenge him, but Dou’s servant Slur intercepts him.

Slur declares him as unworthy to challenge Duo and that Earth’s erasure would begin. When Forte attacks him, Slur sends him into the depth of the Undernet. More giant viruses appear and start to destroy Earth. Enzan and Netto cross fuse to protect the planet and are suddenly brought before Duo since the Alien Navi has started to become interested in Cross Fusion. Duo decides to give Earth and humanity one more chance to prove itself. He marks Netto with the Crest of Duo, which enables him to see the comet and sends both boys back to Earth.

Soon after that Enzan presents Netto with the PET Three, asking him to help him with filming a commercial in return. While filming they meet a man named Inukai Takeo, the first to posses an Asteriod, a Navi gifted by Slur and a test for the Net Saviours to prove the worth of humankind. The Asteroids have the ability to appear in Real World when their OP inserts a so-called Dimension Chip. To oppose that, the Science Lab manages to perfect the “Dimensional Generator”, which allows them to create a Dimensional Area anywhere in the world, with help of Dr. Wily.

After defeating Inukai and Beastman, the boys keep facing Asteroid Navis and their Ops, some of which are recruited into Neo-WWW by Tesla Magnets, the daughter of Gospel’s henchman Gauss Magnets. Eventually Enzan, Netto and the Science Lab are called to Ameropa to find out more about the strange appearance of extinct thought viruses in the Real World. Blues and Rockman confront them in the Cyber World, but are almost overwhelmed until a strange Navi called Colonel appears and helps them out. Enzan decides to stay in Ameropa to find out more about Duo and aid the Ameropean branch of the Net Police, as they currently have nobody with the ability to cross fuse. As he parts ways with Netto, he receives the Crest of Duo.

Enzan teams up with Raoul a case of disappearing Navis, occasionally resorting to disguising as afro-wigged gangsters again. He shortly returns to Japan to team up with Netto and Laika in order to rescue a kidnapped Dr. Hikari from Dr. Regal, who survived the battle against Netto and Rockman and now hopes to gain the ultimate power through Nebula Grey.

Eventually he and Raoul stumble about a thief called Rat who uses the same methods as a similar criminal did twenty years before. Upon investigating it turns out that Colonel was the one to arrest the criminal twenty years ago. In the end Enzan and Raoul manage to arrest Rat and to delete his Asteroid. Even so Enzan continues to investigate Colonel's origins.

He returns to Japan and briefs the Net Police and the Science Lab on his findings. Apparently Colonel was the Navi of an Ameropean soldier, Colonel Barrel. However Barrel died around the time when Netto and Enzan were first called to Ameropa. But as they contemplate about the meaning of that, Shademan returns (he had been drawn into the “past tunnel”, a hole in the space-time continuum that Duo ‘s comet created).

Enzan and Netto face him but are once again outclassed; until a cross fused Yuriko helps them out. After defeating Shademan they try to question Yuriko about the meaning of his revival, but she doesn't have any answers either and only reviles that she is as much involved as them; she, too, had received the Crest of Duo. Before they can ask any more questions Yuriko disappears.

However while Shademan was certainly hurt, he wasn't deleted. After being treated by a still loyal Bubbleman, Shademan decides to travel back in time through the past tunnel and take over the world while the Cyber World is still in its beginnings. Enzan and Netto send Blues and Rockman to protect the past tunnel, but Shademan overcomes them and leaves to the past. Instantly reality changes into one where the Darkloids have succeeded with invading Earth.

While Rockman is drawn into the past and engages Shademan with help of Barryl and Colonel, Enzan and Blues cross fuse to hold of the Darkloid’s forces. Rockman manages to right the past and Enzan continues to investigate in Ameropa as Netto searches for other people with the Crest of Duo in Japan (and forming a team called Cross Fusion) while dealing with Asteroids, Neo WWW and the newly established Darkloids.

Eventually Enzan is informed of excavation pieces that carry the Crest of Duo. He calls the other Cross Fusion members to the site and together they explore the ruins. They find out more about the Duo’s past and his planet, but Slur interrupts and destroys the ruins, leaving them barely enough time to escape.

Soon after that Enzan's Crest of Duo is stolen by Regal, who collects the crests in order to be able to reach the comet. However there is not much time to rest; the Asteroids keep causing trouble and Cross Fusion members split up to oppose them. When Colonel appears and request help to fight against Slur, the source of the Asteroids, Enzan, Netto and Laika send their Navis to hep out. But Slur proves to be too strong for them, even when fighting four on one.

In order to be able to hold against Duo and the Asteroids, the Science Lab decides to complete the Cross Fusion team by calling their last member, Colonel Barrel, from the past to the present. As Barrel arrives, Slur declares the destruction of Earth to begin but is interrupted by Forte, who challenges him once again (winning this time). Meanwhile Regal tries himself to absorb the vast powers of Duo.

He partly succeeds for a moment, attacks the Cross Fusion members, but is killed by Duo, who then destroys Earth. The Cross Fusion members follow Regal to Duo's comet and avoid being killed.

They ask Duo to reverse the destruction of the planet, but Duo refuses and keeps asking them about Cross Fusion instead. He easily blocks their attack and cancels the fusion. But even the pleads of human and Navi together fall onto deaf ears until Barrel and Colonel offer to go with Duo, so that he can study Cross Fusion. Duo restores Earth and sends the rest of the Cross Fusion members back to the planet so that they can go back to their lives.

A month after the Duo-incident a new PET has been developed between the Science lab and IPC and Enzan, Netto and Laika are still active as Net Saviours and train together. However the peace is interrupted when two strange beasts arrive in the Real World and start to wreck chaos while fighting each other.

Enzan, Netto and Laika manage to drive them back into the Cyberworld and send Blues, Rockman and Seachman after them, but the Navis find themselves overwhelmed until the strange baby that had appeared in Net City on the same day fuses with Rockman, which allows him to drive the beasts back into their realm (the state is called "Beast Out").

Shortly after that, strange Navis start to invade - they call themselves Zoanroids. The Zoanrois are at war, following either of the two beasts Greiga and Falzer, a fight that now has extended to Earth. They also start to note the strange powers of Trill, the baby-Navi. While investigating Trill's origins Enzan stumbles across a strange girl ("Iris"), who knocks him out when he is distracted with helping Blues to fight of Beast Virus'.

Iris uses the chance to read his mind and gain knowledge of Trills location. She appears to calm a Beast Out Rockman and separates his fusion with Trill. She then takes Trill to the Dimension Crack at the abandoned Base where Enzan investigated and is almost attacked by Beast Viruses, but rescued by Blues who takes Trill from her and back to Netto and Rockman.

Enzan continues to investigate, concentrating on finding out more about Iris and her connection to Trill, while helping out against the Zoanroids, who by then had gained the ability to materialize in the Real World through so called Copybots.

Eventually, the Zoanroids manage to track down Trill to the Science Lab and even though they seem to be held of in the beginning; Zoan Darkman manages to capture Iris and Trill and takes them back to their world, Beyondard. However before the crack closes Enzan, Netto, Laika, Dingo and Meiru are sucked in as well.

Enzan awakes close to an unconscious Meiru and starts to investigate the Area, while taking care of the other. Soon after Meiru awakens, they find an abandoned Server and Enzan is able to load a language program into his and Meilu's PETs which allows them to communicate with the inhabitants of Beyondard.

After travelling a while, they manage to catch up with Laika, Dingo and Netto, who had found Iris and Trill by that time. Together they reach the Dimensional Area Laboratory, the place where according to Iris everything would be explained. At the Laboratory the group encounters a recording of the Beyondard version of Netto's grandfather Hikari Tadashi who tells them of Trill's origins and purpose and sends the group to the Wily Laboratory in order to end the war.

Just as the group reaches the laboratory, Greiga and Falzer begin to fight again and in the chaos Beyondard Wily captures Tril and uses him to fuse the beasts together. With help of Earth's Science Laboratory the group manages to restore Trill and Netto cross fuses with Trill and Rockman and defeats the beast. Grateful for the help and the restored peace, Iris sends the group back to Earth.

After returning from the Beyondard, Enzan keeps working with Netto as Net Saviour in Japan; confronting threats such as the Professor (a member of the original WWW), his Zero-Virus and a being called Cache.
